Definition

The breakdown or dilution of contaminated water as it passes through the earth’s material.

Description

The capacity for the biodegradation, adsorption, solution, volatilization and dispersion of contaminants in groundwater thereby reducing contaminant concentrations.

Why is attenuation important?

Attenuation is a process whereby contaminate concentrations are reduced.
