An assessment describing the status quo of groundwater related issues within a study area.

Description

An assessment of the status groundwater related issues within a study area.  Typical issues to be taken into account include:

- Defining the resource

- Resource yield

- Resource quality

- Use of the resource

A situation assessment is part of a reconnaissance study  at desktop level.  A situation assessment in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies usually includes data collection.

Why is a situation assessment important?

A situation assessment summarises all available information and resources for use in further groundwater related investigations within the study area.
