NATIONAL MICROBIOLOGICAL MONITORING PROGRAMME: INVENTORY OF DATA SOURCES
In order to assess the faecal pollution hazard to South African water resources, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWAF) is developing a national microbial monitoring programme. DWAF is currently testing the conceptual design of a surface water monitoring programme.
DWAF needs to ensure that its data set is as representative as possible. For this reason, the department is searching for faecal coliform and E. coli data collected in South Africa during the past five years. The department plans to use this information to compile a status report on the microbial quality of South Africa’s water.
