BLM is a Ministerial project launched in 2003. It is aimed at recognizing the
role of youth in awareness campaigns related to water and environment.
It targets GR 6 learners who align their messages to the “washing of hands, use
and care of sanitation facilities for a healthy lifestyle”. The messages are
expressed through the use of art as a delivery medium and is divided into five
categories viz: drama, music, poetry, praise singing, and posters. Through
workshops that are held around the country the educators, learning area
coordinators, facilitators of Arts & Culture are lobbied to get schools to
participate in this competitions and are given guidelines to follow if their
interested in participating in any of the categories.
BLM awards start at district level were all the district winners are chosen and
the get to participate at provincial level for the main National Competition
that happens annually during the Youth month (June). Provincial winners get cash
prizes and get to compete at national level were winners are chosen for each
category and get media class rooms, play pumps and a cash with the first and
second runner ups getting a cash prize.
Objectives
To increase awareness of the public through learners about integrated water resource management and water management skills.
To enable the communities to protect natural resources, manage water resources efficiently and to address issues related to water.
To promote health and hygiene awareness.
