Conceptual Model

Definition

A conceptual model includes designing and constructing equivalent but simplified conditions for the real world problem.

Description

An interpretation of the characteristics and dynamics of an aquifer system which is based on an examination of all available hydrogeological data for a modelled area. This includes the external configuration of the system, location and rates of recharge and discharge, location and hydraulic characteristics of natural boundaries, and the directions of groundwater flow throughout the aquifer system.

Why is conceptual modelling important?

A conceptual model forms the basis of understanding a groundwater problem.
