Definition

Water entrapped in the interstices of sedimentary rocks at the time of deposition.

Description

Water held in the pores of rocks at the time when rocks were formed.  This water often has a high mineral content and where formed in marine conditions can result in highly saline groundwater.

Why is connate water important?

Connate water generally plays an insignificant role in groundwater studies.
