Definition Of, or pertaining to, rivers; produced by river action. Description Relating to or arising from the action of flowing water in a river e.g. fluvial plain. Why are fluvial ecosystems/plains important? Fluvial plains can store and transmit groundwater and can therefore be developed as a source of water.
