Definition

A physical channel in which runoff will flow from higher to lower ground, and to the sea.

Description

The term river and stream are often used interchangeably, with stream generally used to describe smaller river.

Why are rivers important?

River are an important part of the hydrological system.  River can be sustained by groundwater or recharge groundwater systems.
