Remediation

Top Previous Next

Definition

Reduce the concentrations of contaminants in groundwater to some acceptable level.

Description

This requires that the level of impact or contamination be reduced to some acceptable or usable level, and not necessarily to a former or natural condition.

Why is remediation important?

Remediation is an important management and protection mechanism but in the case of groundwater can be expensive and lengthy. Prevention of impact is considered a more efficient management strategy.
