Definition

Water flow in which the stream lines remain distinct and in which the flow direction remains approximately parallel without cross currents and eddies.

Description

A smooth flow at relatively slow velocity, characteristic of the movement of groundwater. Darcy's Law can be applied when laminar flow predominates.

Why is laminar flow important?

Laminar flow describes natural groundwater flow conditions.
