Definition

Pollution from discrete or definable points, as opposed to pollution from broad areas.

 

Description

Pollution from a well-defined and specific source e.g. leaking storage tank, a landfill, an unlined stormwater canal etc.

 

Why is point source pollution important?

Point source pollution is simpler to identify and manage the effects thereof than non-point source pollution.
