A major problem with this document is the uncertainty I have as to the experience and background of the audience.
Highlighting of mathematical results For a mathematician, much of this document would be regarded as elementary, for a manager or ecologist it would be nearly incomprehensible. To aid the skimming mathematician, the mathematical results are highlighted thus.
In face of these conflicting views I hope to have enough detail to satisfy all, and if the detail is too elementary, I ask the reader to skip it. If the mathematics is too daunting, I ask the reader merely to proceed directly to the conclusions. To aid this process textual conclusions are highlighted in this manner.
In between I hope anybody working on this problem will find the document useful.
