PROJECT APPROACH
The aim of this was project was to revise the Water Quality Management Policies and Strategies for South Africa and develop an implementation plan and Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. To achieve this, the Project was broken down into 5 phases.
The 5 phases of the project are shown in the diagram below
The approach used was to produce first editions of the Policy, Strategy and Implementation Plan, based on a gap analysis using existing information and inputs from various experts (i.e. based on the findings from the assessment phase of the project). The first editions were then discussed with a wide range of key stakeholders, following which the second and final editions were produced. This enabled early identification of some of the priority issues to be addressed and discussed, and provided the basis for a better informed the revision of reports to take place.
Stakeholder participation was a key component of the project and there were a number of opportunities for key stakeholders to participate and provide their comments on aspects relating to WQM challenges and the proposed solutions. These engagements have been documented in a stakeholder engagement and communication audit report. Opportunities for the public to comment will be provided through the gazetting of the WQM Policy for public comment, due to take place during 2018.
The table below provides a list of the documents that have been produced as part of this project. The documents have been split into four, colour-coded, series
