In the Blue Deal South Africa Programme South African Water Institutions work together with the Dutch Water Authorities. It is part of the Dutch Blue Deal (2018– 2030). This is a programme to support water management worldwide by exchanging knowledge and experiences, assist the national, regional and local organisations and cooperate with key stakeholders. The Blue Deal South Africa Programme will specifically contribute to clean and sufficient water.
The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, has sealed the Blue Deal South Africa Partnership with the Dutch Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Infrastructure & Water Management on 5 March 2020.
The Blue Deal South Africa Programme is based on the National Water and Sanitation Master Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals. The programme aims to make a real contribution to improving rivers and wetlands in a poor ecological condition and assisting in water conservation. It builds on experiences of the Kingfisher programme, and brings the collaboration to a next level.
