Definition

The volume of water per unit of time abstracted from an aquifer system.

Description

The rate at which water is removed from a groundwater resource.

Why is discharge rate important?

The rate at which groundwater is discharged needs to be properly managed to avoid over-abstraction or the induction of contamination into the groundwater system.
