Definition

The amount of water in unsaturated soil including water vapour, expressed as a volume of water per unit volume of porous media.

Description

The total amount of water in soil above the water table.

Why is soil moisture important?

Soil moisture provides an indication of how much more water the soil can absorb and is important for irrigation scheduling.
