Publication of Call for Nominations for Breede-Olifants CMA Governing Board
The Department of Water and Sanitation has extended the call for nominations to serve as governing board members of the Breede-Olifants Catchment Management Agency (BOCMA). The BOCMA was established in terms of the National Water Act No. 36 of 1998. The Water Management Area (WMA) is wholly located in the Western Cape province. The purpose of the BOCMA is to manage water resources within its water management area and to involve local communities in the decision-making processes.
According to section 81(3) of the National Water Act, the Minister must establish an advisory committee to recommend to the Minister which organs of state and bodies representing different sectors and other interests within the water management area of the catchment management agency should be represented or reflected on the governing board.
The Minister has appointed the Advisory Committee as per the National Water Act requirement, and all Sectors and individuals within the Breede-Olifants Water Management Area are hereby called to submit nominations of suitably qualified persons to be considered for appointment as members of the Board of the BOCMA on or before 20 October 2025.
Interested people should have one of the following required skills and expertise:
- Environmental Management, Science, and/or Engineering
- Corporate Governance
- Compliance and Risk Management
- Financial Management
- Human Resources Management
- Water Resource Management
- Information and Communications Technology
Primary Duties:
- Provide oversight into governance and statutory requirements
- Exercise oversight on strategy implementation and policy compliance
- Ensure submission of statutory reports
Role Requirements:
- In-depth understanding of water sector governance, statutory compliance, and financial management
- Ability to interpret financial statements and formulate strategies.

- Submit CV, certified qualifications, ID copy, and a letter of motivation (max 2 pages)
- Completed nomination form with proposer and seconder

- The Minister reserves the right not to appoint.
- Correspondence will be limited to short-listed nominees only. Short-listed nominees will be required to complete the necessary disclosure of interest and information declarations.
- Preference will be given to nominees whose appointment will enhance representation on the Board.
