Stakeholder Consultations

The work to develop the master plan has already commenced. A total of 11 consultation workshops have been held as part of the stakeholder consultations. These consultations include the national dialogue on the master plan to sensitise South Africa on the development of the master plan, which was held on the 19 May 2017, and chaired by the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Honorable Pam Tshwete. The other consultations were the workshops held in the nine provinces.

Further meetings will be arranged with stakeholders in order to obtain their inputs into the process. This will also be instrumental in providing a solid foundation for consultation.

The communication objective are to:

  • Raise awareness and educate the public about the NWSMP
  • Highlight department’s interventions and initiatives in the water sector
  • Enforce behavioral change in the way the public think about water and sanitation issues
  • Profile the work of the department in changing the lives of the people for better
  • Create trust between the people and government
  • Mobilise communities to contribute in the development of government policies

Further Targeted Consultations are:

  1. National departments and Professional Bodies will be consulted in January 2018, and some are listed below:
    1. ECSA, SAICE, SACNASP
    2. NT, COGTA, DRDLR
    3. DMR, DOE, DEA
    4. WRC, CSIR, DST
  2. Provincial consultations likely to take place late January to mid February 2018.
  3. A 5 day workshop is envisaged for February 2018
