The key objective of the Reconciliation Strategy is to implement the prioritised interventions to reconcile the water requirements with the available water resources up to the year 2040. Phase 2 of the Study is broken down into various tasks with associated objectives. The separate objectives of each task are listed below:
Update the water requirement projections for the four supply areas, namely the Mgeni, the Mdloti-Mvoti and the Lower Thukela.
-
Review and refine the different intervention options and associated implementation dates, as well as to develop scenarios of selected intervention combinations and timing to reconcile available water resources and projected water requirements for defined supply areas.
Update and revise the water balance for each supply area based on selected water requirement projections and intervention combination scenarios.
Update Reconciliation Strategy recommendations and associated timelines and monitor progress with the implementation of the recommendations.
Monitor and asses actual developments in the study area for the purpose of reviewing the continued relevance and possible updating of the Reconciliation Strategy.
-
Maintain communications and interaction with the Strategy Steering Committee (SSC) on progress made on technical investigations undertaken by the Technical Support Group (TSG) and other organisations by means of SSC meetings and related documentation.
-
Disseminate information on the progress and update of the Strategy to the greater public at appropriate intervals.
-
Training and capacity building is a key component of the study because it will serve to develop the competence and expertise of DWS staff and promote a common understanding of technical aspects between the DWS and the study team.
