STRATEGY STEERING COMMITTEE

One of the recommendations of the Reconciliation Strategy was that a Strategy Steering Committee (SSC) be constituted. The primary function of the SSC is to take responsibility for the implementation of the Reconciliation Strategy by providing strategic advice and guidance and to make recommendations, on a bi-annual basis, on long-term planning activities required to ensure ongoing reconciliation of water requirement from and available supply to the KwaZulu-Natal Coastal Metropolitan Water Supply area.

The SSC was established in 2010 with the following objectives:

  • Ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the KwaZulu-Natal Coast Metropolitan Water Supply System’s Reconciliation Strategy;

  • Ensure that the Strategy remains relevant; and

  • Ensure that the Strategy and its recommendations are appropriately communicated.

Membership of the SSC consists of representatives from agriculture, local authority, water service providers, industry sectors, national departments, provincial government and civil society representing a wide variety of stakeholder groups in the KwaZulu-Natal Coastal Metropolitan Area, comprising stakeholders such as the DWS, Umgeni Water, eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, District Municipalities, Local Municipalities, conservation organisations such as the SA National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and a number of industries.

The SSC is a voluntary body operating at a strategic level and ensuring that the technical aspect of the study is transparent, open and consultative and that cooperative governance is embraced.

The minutes of SSC meetings, as well as all resultant documentation, may be found in the Reports & Documents tab.
