The primary function of the Study Steering Committee (SSC) will be oversee the
study and provide strategic advice and guidance.
The objectives of the SSC are to:
Ensure the development of the Orange River Water Supply System’s Reconciliation Strategy;
Ensure that the Strategy and its recommendations are appropriately communicated; and
Ensure that the Reconciliation Strategy, after its development, is implemented.
The SSC was formed in August 2012. This Committee has representatives from
provincial government departments involved in water resources management,
conservation organisations, agriculture, District and Local Municipalities in
the study area, Water Boards, civic organisations, as the DWS National and
relevant Provincial Offices.
The SSC is a voluntary body operating at a strategic level and ensuring that the
technical aspect of the study is transparent, open and consultative and that
cooperative governance is embraced.
