Definition

A record of the geological and hydrogeological conditions encountered in the drilling of a borehole and the construction thereof.

Description

Samples (rock or drill chips, water quality) are taken at predetermined intervals and information recorded (e.g. water strikes, blow yields) during the drilling and construction of boreholes.  The drilling supervisor documents this information as a borehole log.

Why is a borehole log important?

Borehole logs provide a record of conditions encountered during drilling and construction of the borehole.  Borehole logs are a crucial record of fracture positions and aquifer information.
