Definition

A zone of fissures, fractures, cracks, joints and faults within rocks.

Description

A fractured rock zone can be considered as an area of intense fracturing.  These zones can serve as higher conductivity conduits for flow.

Why are fracture zones important?

These zones can be good areas to site boreholes because they can be high conductivity conduits for groundwater flow.
