Definition

An influent stream is positioned above the water table and discharges into the underlying groundwater system.

Synonym

Losing Stream

Description

Influent streams loses water to groundwater by outflow through the stream bed.  Opposite of effluent stream.

Why is an influent stream important?

While not impacted by groundwater abstraction, these streams can be an important local source of recharge.
