National Arbor Week (Iviki Lezihlahla) from 1-7 September
serves to promote awareness for the need of planting and maintaining indigenous
trees especially for the many disadvantaged communities in the important
context of sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
Every Arbor Week celebration highlights two specific trees, one common and one rare species.
This year the celebrations under the theme "trees
are our heritage - Mehlare ke bohwa bja rena" will focus on the
ten years of freedom celebration and the ten years of forestry achievements
especially the role of forestry in poverty alleviation and economic development.
Every Arbor Week celebrations highlight two trees. This year the two
trees are: Kirkia Acuminata (White Seringa) and Combretum Bracteosum
(Hiccup Nut).
