Overview

The Directorate: Strategic Water Resource Planning (D: SWRP) develops national strategies and procedures for the reconciliation of water availability and requirements to meet national, social and economic development objectives including strategic requirements, resource quality objectives and international obligations.


The D: SWRP comprises of four sub-directorates, delineated in terms of Planning Areas, i.e., North, Central, East and South.


Aim: To develop long-term strategies and procedures for the reconciliation of water availability and requirements.

Functions:

  • Reconciliation of water requirements and availability, including conducting of water availability assessments.
  • Review of catchment management strategies, particularly in terms of the strategies and interventions to reconcile water requirements and availability.
  • Capacity building and assistance to Water Management Areas (WMAs) in terms of water resource planning.
