Definition

The science that studies the nature and origin of landforms.

Description

The study of configuration of the earth’s surface, including classification, description, nature, origin and development and their relationship to the underlying geological structures and the history of geological changes seen in these structures.

Why is geomorphology important?

It determines the processes that has taken place in a catchment with regard to aquifer development and surface development. This determines the way in which recharge to the aquifer, drainage patterns and soil characteristics will take place / is defined.
