START YOUR CAREER @ DWS

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) recognises that graduates/under graduates within the non-technical field are important for the economical growth of the country. DWS has established a Non-Technical Internship Programme to offer graduates/under graduates an opportunity to gain experience within their non-technical fields to make them more employable. The programme also gives the undergraduates an opportunity to gain practical work experience in order to obtain a formal qualification.

The programme is applicable to graduates and under graduates seeking to gain workplace experience and exposure in non-technical study applicable to DWS. The programme was introduced to support the Department’s Employment Equity Policy, to develop a culture of high quality lifelong learning within the Department, to improve service delivery and to foster skills transfer through mentoring.

The Non-Technical Internship Programme focuses on the following categories of interns:

Graduates

Graduates offer an ideal skills-pool, which can assist the Department to gain the competitive advantage to deliver on its mandate. The Non-Technical Internship Programme highlights the alignment of theory and practical work experience. This will enable interns to complement their theoretical knowledge with relevant and market oriented skills. The graduates are recruited as interns according to their areas of specialisation, which should be relevant to the needs of DWS and the water sector.

Under Graduates (Learner Interns)

Under graduates need practical experience/in service training/work integrated learning to obtain a qualification, this programme is perfect for their development as it offers theory and practical work experience. It enables interns to complement their theoretical knowledge with relevant and market oriented skills that the Department offers.

REMUNERATION

The interns receive a stipend as determined by the Department. The stipend is according to the guidelines of the DPSA and the relevant SETA.
