16 Nov Question 2104: 16 November 2001: Mr HA Smit  to ask the Minister of Water and Sanitation:
1.(a)What was the extend of projects to eradicate alien vegetation in the magisterial districts of Laingsburg and Beaufort West in the last 12 months, (b) what did the costs of these projects amount to for each month, (c) who paid the costs and (d) who provided transport for the workers;
2. whether any of these transport contractors is receiving any other remuneration from the relevant local authority or any government department; if so,
3. whether approval was granted to the transport contractors by the relevant local authority or government department also to act as contractor; if so, (a) when and (b) by whom?

Whether his department constructed the Paris dam on the Bivane river between Vryheid and Paulpietersburg in KwaZulu-Natal; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so, who will be the beneficiaries of this dam, with particular reference to the rural community?

c: what is the toxicity level of the water in the Chatty river;

(1) Whether his department has considered building a small dam at the confluence of the Kutswi, Manyukuru and Motsephiri Rivers in the Nebo area; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so,

16 March Question 4 : 16 March 2001 - Mr G B D McIntosh to ask the Minister of Water and Sanitation:
(1) (a) What overall cost has been incurred to date on projects undertaken at (i) national and (ii) local government level for developing the Muniwater program, (b)(i) how many versions of the Muniwater program have been developed since its initiation and (ii) why have so many versions been developed since its initiation, (c) what are the reasons for the decision to test the Muniwater program at geographic locations with substantial groundwater supplies, but remote from Pretoria and (d) what is the extent to which (i) the relevant managers within his department were informed of the exact nature of the Muniwater program and (ii) any manager or managers within his department are able to operate the program;
(2) whether his department (a) attempted at any stage to purchase existing computer programs which could have been adapted to accommodate the requirements of this venture, (b) tasked any officials to explore the possibility of purchasing such programs and (c) conducted any investigations to ascertain whether there were any programs in existence which could meet the requirements; if so, what are the relevant details;
(3) whether his department will make available the details of the log-book records of the subsidised vehicles used by two engineers in the employ of his department for the purpose of testing the Muniwater program together with the relevant local authorities and consultants; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
(4) whether the Muniwater program is viable for continued implementation by local authorities; if not,
(5) whether he requested that the use of this program be discontinued; if so, (a) from which date was the program discontinued and (b) what are the further relevant details?

25 May Question 877 : 25 May 2001 - Mr S Simmons to ask the Minister of Water and Sanitation:
(1) What amount (a) was spent in the (i) 1998-99, (ii) 1999-00 and (iii) 2000-01 financial years and (b) has been budgeted for the 2001-02 financial year for the clearing of invading alien vegetation;
(2) whether any progress is being made in the fight against invading alien vegetation; if not, why not; if so, what progress;

6 June Question 18: 6 June 2001 - Mr MCJ van Schalkwyk to ask the Minister of Water and Sanitation: Whether in the light of the fact that many households of eMbalengle in Mpumalanga receive only sporadic sewage removal services and the fact that residents have little choice but to use rivers for waste disposal, he or his department intends taking any steps regardin the contamination of the only drinking water available to many of these households and the resulting health threat posed by diseases like cholera; if not, why not; if so, what steps?

Question 178: 6 June 2001 - Mr S Simmons to ask the Minister of Water and Sanitation:
1. Whether there are any mechanisms or processes in place to ensure that all households receive six kilolitres of free clean drinking water in areas and settlements where no water meters have been installed: if not, why not: if so, what are the relevant details;
2. Whether any local government authorities iwll not be able to implement the free provision of clean drinking water with effect from 1 July 2001; if so, which local government authorities in each specified province;
3. Whether any provision has been made in his department's budget to provide financial support to local government authorities which are unable to recover the costs incurred in this free provision of water and to those whose communities live in extreme poverty; if not, why not; if so, what amount has been budgeted for this purpose?
