Development of Groundwater Guidance Documents (March 2023)

The Groundwater Guidance Documents were developed by Water Research Commission (WRC) in collaboration with the South African-Danish Strategic Water Sector Cooperation programme to support the development of supportive management tools that can ensure a sustainable and cost-effective groundwater supply scheme management in South Africa as part of the water supply mix. The documents were identified in Phase I and received inputs for development in Phase II.

Specialised approach to groundwater mapping (2020-2022)

Development of a South Africa groundwater mapping and assessment approach to support better future sustainable groundwater use in the water supply mix. There were three activities that made up this project, the approach was demonstrated in Ladysmith to support Umgeni Water in developing groundwater for water supply around Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa through geological and hydrological modelling to test the applicability of the Danish groundwater mapping approach in South Africa.

Borehole Optimisation (July 2022)

The project was conducted in collaboration with the Water Use Efficiency Track of the Strategic Water Sector Cooperation (SSC) to support Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality with development of procedures for wellfield optimisation and systems for monitoring and managing the wellfields in a sustainable manner.
