The Department of Water and Sanitation in collaboration with South African Development Community – Groundwater Management Institute (SADC-GMI) has completed a project on the review and update of the Hydrogeological map and information brochure of Polokwane 2326 (Pietersburg), South Africa.

The project was financed through a Grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and multi donor trust fund Cooperation in International Waters in Africa (CIWA). The total Grant for the implementation of the project was about R2 million (125 000 USD).

The main objective of the project was to update the Hydrogeological map and information brochure of South Africa within the Limpopo Province and increase the scale from 1: 500 000 to 1: 250 000.

The targeted map series was for Polokwane 2326 (Pietersburg), which was sub-divided into four map sheets: Lephalale (2326), Modimolle (2428), Polokwane (2328) and Thabazimbi (2426). The other objective was to develop methodology on updating existing Hydrogeological maps of South Africa. The completed map series and information brochures are available in digital format.
