The Department of Water and Sanitation in collaboration with South African Development Community – Groundwater Management Institute (SADC-GMI) is currently running a project on the Review and Update of the Hydrogeological Map series and information brochure of Polokwane, South Africa.
The project is financed through a Grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and multi donor trust fund Cooperation in International Waters in Africa (CIWA). The total Grant for the implementation of the project is about R2 million (125 000 USD). Anticipated project implementation period is 20 calendar months, between September 2023 to March 2025.
The main objective of the proposed project is to update the Hydrogeological Map series and information brochure of South Africa within the Limpopo Province and reduce the scale from 1: 500 000 to at least 1: 250 000 or 1: 100 000 or smaller where possible.
The targeted map series is for Polokwane 2326 (Pietersburg). The other objective is to develop methodology on updating existing Hydrogeological Maps of South Africa. The map will be an interactive map digitized and uploaded on the Ministry database and systems.
