Introduction
Groundwater Management is one of the key thematic areas under the South Africa and Denmark strategic government-government partnership in the water sector which commenced in 2015. Under Groundwater Management Track, a number of projects were conducted in Phase I and Phase II of the Strategic Water Sector Cooperation (SSC) between Denmark and South Africa . These projects include Development of five (5) groundwater guidance documents, Groundwater Mapping Approach demonstration project in Ladysmith, Development of a South African Groundwater Mapping and Assessment Approach (SAGMAA), Development of a Wellfield Management System in Saldanha Bay Municipality, Optimization of Boreholes in Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality conducted in collaboration with the Water Use Efficiency Track of the SSC. This page will reflect the SSC projects completed in Phase I and Phase II and will be updated with Phase III projects.
Status
The South African-Danish Strategic Water Sector Cooperation is ongoing, it has been divided into three phases. Phase I was between 2016-2018 and Phase II started in 2019 and completed in 2022.
The two phases focused on identifying areas of need in the water sector and formulation of guidelines and tools for implementation in the next phase.
Phase III commenced in 2023 and will end in December 2025, it focuses on implementation of guidelines and tools developed in Phase I and Phase II.
